Recently visited home land Assiga, it was refreshing and amazing, the strength, unity and cooperation among the youths is trilling, thanks to the current youth president (Eseme) and current embattled political leader (Dr Igile) or ( if he is not I stand corrected). The political awareness and expectations is so great that politicians there are left with no other option but to carry the youths along, thanks to the level of education and awareness among the youths.
The time has come for us to rethink our political strategy in the politic as the sharing formula and zoning system is not only affecting our political behaviour but also harming our future.
You might might say, how?
There is the need for some fundamental questions to be answered by the new league of political divisions known as Deciders as popularly known and the Ajegunla.
These two names shows the disparity in not only the community but among young and old politicians.
One question to ask ourselves is whether the local level and community level zoning system is functional, sustainable, effective, and important to our political harmony and the elimination malginalization.
This is for us all to think about before it gets to us.
Being identified as a potential leader never really mean you will rise to leadership position. In fact the odd is 9 out 10 never get to the top. The problem is that society and politicians are investing in the wrong people, people that will main the state stus quo and at the end the community suffers.
Change in our Political behaviour and awareness is vital if we must get it right.
Have any lessons been learnt from the recent clash between Iyiman and Adon ? Well I suppose the wise people did.
The world is becoming smaller and smaller, countries cooperating and community building and growing from strength to strength and those that have chosen the path of destruction have not seen peace for decades and have known no progress of any sort.
The destruction that follow the clash will linger for decades and the trust will take decades to build back and the political structure weaken more and more and the political future of the people will continue to be a ground for political game.
The destruction of one community in yakurr or Abi is a destruction of the entire polity, those that skim for the destruction of one should also know they will be affected because nothing is hidden.
Nigeria .... is happening again from scrap fuel subsidy to scrap NYSC ,and to Boko Haram again to factions in the sect which is tantamont to more attacks and blood sucking monsters in operation. For NYSC i think it has over stayed it welcome and the purpose its introduction has never been acheived and will never be achieve evidenced in the never ending ethnic wars, ethnic political parties, political parties run in ethnic lines, ethnic pressure groups and vigilante groups, parochial propagandas and policiies against ethnic divides and to the interest of the ethnicity aganist the national government.
Employers are forced by the government to request for evidence that you attended and was discharge from the service corp before you are given a job where there is one not without giving consideration to the review, updating and adding mechanisms that help validate and give value to the system for the purpose of nation building, engagement and respect for lives and properties. Why would a young graduate willingly and happily after four years in the university if theres no stricke action be willing to go and spend another one year serviceing the country that has place for him or her in the constitution, that has no respect for lives and properties and a country that doesnt care about the welfair of him or her let alone creating job opportunities for them after school, a country shadow with nepotisim, corruption and clueless opportunist in the realm of afairs, shameless bigots who cajoles the people to celebrate their loots and act like their redeemers and uses intimidation and cohesion to create popularity.
Now, what is Boko Haram? how did it come about? what is their mission ? who are sponsoring them ? what are the effort put in place to stop it and discourage other groups from emanating in such deadly ways ? what lessons can/have the government learnt from the issue ? The president {GEJ} said there are Boko Haram members in his government .....is that a joke..? what is he doing about it ? hundreds of people have died, yet no body is anwereing questions some arrested ones are bailed out , some allowed to walk free, some plnned escaped routes are planned for the them. It is this same goverment that awards maritime security contract to war lords and make militants board members for important, international and religious affairs abroad.
This National government remembered fuel subsidy because more avenue are needed to loot the country, when the country's foreign reserve was almost empty and as a result of the shock the openly decided to take all on the masses by striping them of the only thing they have always thought they are gaining, in the real sense, they actually dont gain anything as compared to the country's wealth and looted funds by few in government and international oil companies. Unemploment has got to recording breaking and still rising , but is not part of government priority. Deregulation has become a political talk and game of making more money for a few to steal while the gains goes to foreign countries.
Political and civil unrest all over arab nations and the midle east, What is going on in the world ? Does it mean anything to political analists or historians or even policy maker and analists ? Economic down turn, unemployment and credit crunch ,what do economists and financial institutions take from these happenings ? Has bailout programs from financial institution ever saved a country ? Where has all these moneys gone to ? Private pockets ,wars , or misinvestments ? What do we ordinary citizen think of the whole system ? So many questions no answeres from the system
We do not have to wait untill 2015 before we start the struggle , yes the struggle, we struggle a lot too much that we step on toes, create enemies, break people down and lose confidence on ourselves and on people .We struggle so much that we loose control and focus and the result ? We loose all and our effort and struggles is vanity and nonprofitable to the people we seek to represent.
The earlier we start talking and consulting the better and the easier the struggle at the time of decision making .We spend so much time talking, fighting and struggling even consultation then is more difficult because is time for decision making ,in most cases we lost out because others can't wait for our indecision or inaction.Let's start now to encourage political discussions, consultation and participation of all stakeholders of assiga both old and young ,men and women ,the time is now .
Recent politics in Assiga council ward seem to have taken a different direction suposely changing according to time but NOT ! because is not in favour of the people rather to personal and selfish interest.......Yes !
Once they have been elected to represent the people of Assiga ward , these councilors seem to detach themselves from the people by living outside Assiga even if all their lives they have not left the shores of assiga.
How do you represent Assiga council ward when you don't live and are in close reach with the people...?
Prior to 1999 our councilors lived in the ward ,they are reachable and local issues are taken to them and discussed for the good of the community. Now they live in the state capital calabar and some times spend time at Ugep all in hiding.......WHY !!!! ?
The same rubish is on again , people can't remember when last they have set their eyes on the ''zoning / Godfather selection councilor'' this apolling system that has badly affected our political attitude, culture and might.
THIS MUST STOP...............!!! We must stop this what ever it takes......
